Ladysmith Maritime Society to Host Community Open House: 14th August, Aggie Hall

The Ladysmith Maritime Society (LMS) is inviting community members to attend a public open house meeting on August 14, 2024, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Aggie Hall in Ladysmith. This event is part of LMS’s ongoing efforts to engage the community in discussions about the future of maritime activities in Ladysmith.

LMS has been actively involved in responding to the significant changes to the marina’s operations following the premature abandonment of the water lot lease and the issuance of a new lease to the Stz’uminus First Nation in 2023. The transfer resulted in the loss of LMS’s primary operations and has had wide-ranging impacts on the community.

The public open house will provide an opportunity for residents to:

– Share their views and opinions on the marina’s future

– Hear the results of LMS’s recent community survey

– Provide feedback on potential next steps for the organization

We believe it’s crucial to maintain an open dialogue with our community. This open house is a chance for everyone to come together, share their thoughts, and help shape the future of maritime activities in Ladysmith.  If you plan to attend we ask you to register for this event by signing up here!

The event follows LMS’s recent community survey, which aimed to gather public feedback on the changes to the Ladysmith Community Marina since the 2023 changes and the issuance of a new water lot lease to the Stz’uminus First Nation, and to explore potential future directions for the Society.  If you have not had a chance to complete the survey and would like a chance to do so, you can find it here.

LMS, a registered charity that has served the community for nearly 40 years, remains committed to its mission of providing public access to the waterfront, encouraging maritime tourism, and promoting maritime heritage, despite recent challenges.

We’re looking forward to sharing what we’ve learned from the survey and hearing directly from community members.  Your input is invaluable as we work towards solutions that benefit all stakeholders.  Please come out and join us, we simply ask that you register here so that we can notify you of any changes, while maintaining safe occupancy limits.

All Ladysmith residents and those with an interest in the local maritime community are encouraged to attend this important event.
